Summer is coming to an end, and I cannot believe how quickly time has flown. The hot temperatures here in Texas do not seem to compare to the red-hot real estate market. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to work in this state with so many hardworking, knowledgeable license holders who make a difference in the lives of so many Texans every day.
Say Something
In this hot market, it can feel a bit like the wild west, but it is in this market that vigilance must remain. When you see something that you believe may be a violation of the Texas Real Estate License Act or TREC rules, report it. TREC is a complaint-based licensing and enforcement agency. So if you see an issue, file a complaint with TREC. This is one way to promote and extend professionalism in our industry. If it does not rise to the level of filing a complaint, another option is simply to contact the agent’s broker or supervisor. Sometimes the help of fellow agents and brokers ensures that bad acts are corrected and mistakes do not cause harm.
ARELLO Mid-Year Meeting
Last month I had the opportunity to attend the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (ARELLO) mid-year meeting in San Antonio. One thing that is for sure, many other jurisdictions look to Texas. Our market, contracts, education, and organization are all in a league of their own. Every time I have the opportunity to participate in these types of events, I am always grateful. I learn so much from other jurisdictions and have the chance to show off all that Texas does right.
The concept of license portability is a big topic at ARELLO and one that the Commission will spend some time reviewing. As we continue to understand the needs of our license holders and those interested in becoming license holders in Texas, we will continue to explore what is best for Texas.
RSC Transition
On September 1, TREC will no longer regulate residential service companies (home warranties). Residential Service Company regulation will transition to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
Upcoming Meetings
This month the Commission will be gathering for our quarterly meeting and workshop. We will gather in person. I am looking forward to what I am sure will be productive meetings.
