Employee Benefits
Insurance and Retirement
The Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS) administers Texas state employee benefits, including health and other insurance options, retirement plans, TexFlex (a tax-savings flexible benefit program), and Texa$aver (401(k) and 457 investment accounts program). You can learn more about the benefits package offered to employees at the ERS web site.
Employee Leave
Agency employees are entitled to a paid day off from work on a national, state, and skeleton crew holiday that the State observes. The State Holiday Schedule can be found on the State Auditor's website.
Employees earn eight hours of sick leave per month and increasing vacation hours based on length of State service. Employees are not eligible to use vacation leave until they have completed six continuous months of State service. In addition to sick and vacation, there are several other leave types available to State employees.
In compliance with the Federal Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the agency compensates overtime work through time off in lieu of payment.
Longevity Pay
Longevity pay is provided to all eligible full-time employees who have at least two years of lifetime service credit (State service). Employees receive $20 per month for each two years of service not to exceed $420 per month.
