The newly formed Broker Responsibility Advisory Committee (BRAC) met for the first time on January 17 in Austin.
TREC Rule 535.46, Broker Responsibility Advisory Committee, which was adopted by the Commission last August, established BRAC to advise the Commission on issues relating to broker responsibility. Like other Commission advisory committees, BRAC could make recommendations for rule changes or legislative changes associated with broker responsibility that affect the real estate industry and consumers.
The meeting kicked off with training from TREC General Counsel Vanessa Burgess. She explained the role of advisory committees, how they work with staff, and the way recommendations move from the committee to the Commission.
The committee then elected its leaders:
- Ty Williams, chair
- Brian Sales, vice-chair
- Marion Napoleon, secretary
BRAC also reviewed work of the Broker Responsibility Working Group (BRWG), which was the ad hoc group preceding BRAC, and brainstormed what they may want to focus on moving forward. For the next meeting, the committee will discuss licensing and experience requirements for brokers and the role of associated brokers.
