The Broker Responsibility Advisory Committee (BRAC) met October 15 and discussed potential changes to becoming a licensed broker in Texas.
Currently, to become a licensed broker, 900 education hours are required (630 of these hours are required to be in related education). If an applicant holds a bachelor’s degree or higher, the 630 hours of related education are satisfied, regardless of field of study.
In previous conversations, BRAC considered recommending the Commission only award credit for real estate-related college education. During the meeting on October 15, BRAC decided it will not recommend the removal of the college degree pathway to earning a broker’s license.
In addition, BRAC is considering increasing the experience required to obtain a broker’s license. BRAC is also discussing the concept of allowing some experience to be substituted for a portion of the 630 real estate related education hours.
Currently, to be eligible for a broker’s license, a sales agent must have at least four years’ active experience as a licensed real estate sales agent or broker during the 60-month period preceding the filing of the application. Experience must total 360 points and an applicant must provide a transaction identification list for each transaction claimed on the experience report. You can provide public comments on what BRAC is considering.
